As an avid photographer who is new to aerial photography, I am delighted with the DJI Mini 2. It is easy to fly--I even took it out over water on my first flight, although briefly and controlled in Cine mode. Despite the small, compact size, it is surprisingly stable and takes sharp images, even in some wind.
The controls are responsive and set up is intuitive and plug-and-play while still providing numerous options for customization.

I had zero experience with flying drones before this purchase. I imagined it’d be hard to figure out the controls and would take some time before I could really hone my skills. Surprisingly, I didn’t have to wait very long before I was able to fly the drone well enough that I was able to get some great overhead shots of my kids playing baseball and the shoreline at the beach. I really like having the ability to use either the remote or my phone to fly the drone. Both are easy to use and come packed with enough features that it makes flying a breeze! The packing is also great because it makes it extremely portable and I can pack it in my backpack when I’m riding the hills on my mountain bike and allows me to get some really cool shots of the trails I ride.
I purchased this for my son 10 yrs birthday and he enjoyed, easy use and awesome feature. Its has very clear video and pictures HD. Its very stable flying as 10yers kid can control it. I paired iPhone to enjoy more i did some pictures and videos. It has one minor issue the camera control bottom up and down its functioning but the direction sign on bottom is opposite ( i mean up make camera move down , and down move camera up) . I dont see this a big a problem. Thats why I gave five star.

I bought this drone as a birthday gift for my 12 years old son. The setup instructions was easy to understand and he's having so much fun. Also it's easy to connect to his phone and records for videos. With 2k camera captures the picture and video quality are amazing. It’s very easy to control, so that makes it a good drone for beginners. The camera leaves some to be desired, but I suppose beautiful photos of the horizon are not what this is meant for. Only other complaint is that even in light winds, the drone is very influenced so do proceed with caution in those conditions.
Otherwise I’d say you get a great value for your dollar here. If you’re new to piloting drones like me this is a great option. I’ve crashed this multiple times scuffing up the blades and what not; and still it operates just fine.
My son could not wait to get the batteries for the remote, so he just installed controllers unto his phone and away he went. Although, from my point of view it is advantageous to use its actual remote to get the hang of it speed and movements, then later you can switch to phone/tablet. very fast as well in speed. super cool.

In the USA...if you plan to make money using your drone for photography or video, you need to be FAA Part 107 licensed, or potentially face fines and charges. If you plan to fly for recreation only, skip this book and head to the FAA website to pay your $5 to get the recreational registration ID for your drone(s). You're done at that point (recreational/hobbyist drone flying is exempted from the Part 107 licensing), no need to pursue any licenses or certifications (though I recommend you join the AMA - modelaircraft.org). 99% of those who want to buy or fly drones DO NOT NEED a FAA part 107 license!! You're wasting your time and $$ on licensing if you bought your drone to fly around your yard or take on kayaking trips.
I had about 15 years of model aircraft building and flying experience before prepping for the sUAS remote pilot exam, so my experience alone would probably get me through 50-60% of the sUAS exam. However, I knew little about reading airport surface maps or knowing some of the terminology that the FAA wants applicants to know in order to pass this exam. This book will NOT make you an expert at reading surface maps or understanding specifically what to look for on them - this information is easy to find in online videos and doesn't cost a penny. Just search Google or Youtube for "free drone pilot exam prep." If you want to go the extra mile and pass with a 90% or better, definitely take the time to watch the free online videos out there (most are 1.5-2 hrs long).
Read through this book initially, answer the questions as you go to help commit the info to memory...if sections of the book confuse you, don't waste time or energy worrying about them. There are MANY detailed drone test prep videos online that are FREE to all who are willing to watch that will supplement the book quite nicely. Don't waste $300 on those "online drone pilot training classes", it's just not necessary to invest that kind of cash in order to pass a 60-question test that will likely only take up 45 minutes of your time. Spend the $300 on a quality drone instead.
Overall I found that the sUAS drone pilot exam was fairly easy. I completed the exam in less than an hour with a 97%, missed only a couple questions out of the 60-something on the test. The test is multiple choice, there are 3 answer choices per question, the book will get you used to the test format thoroughly. At least one of the three answer choices will almost always be completely ridiculous (and many are quite repetitive), so process of elimination is not difficult. I spent less than 8-10 total hours studying prior to the exam...most of that studying I chipped away at bit by bit, a half-hour here and there, then took practice tests within a day or two of the exam to see how well I would do. The greatest expense *should be* the exam itself (runs about $150 to register for it). The second largest expense should be this book, the rest is just taking the time to study and prep.
The book is a great reference, it provides access to a couple of free online exams, and provides a great reference of the material that is on the actual FAA exam. I would likely not have passed the exam if not for the book or the additional free online videos I watched. The book is money much-better-spent than dropping $300+ on an overpriced online course.
5 stars because the book is to the point and provides sufficient preparation for the FAA sUAS drone pilot exam. Even if you only read through the book, walk away not understanding much about the surface maps or how to interpret METAR reports, you'll probably know enough to pass with a 75% or better.
I passed the Remote Pilot Test, and only missed two questions. I used this book, the Gary Glenn YouTube video, and a few other videos on sectional charts. You don't need to pay $300+ on lessons to pass this test!
If you only read this book, you will probably be confused. Watch a couple of the popular part 107 "workshops" on YouTube FIRST, then read through this book, answering the practice questions as you go. If you get confused or hung up on a topic in the book, don't worry too much, the book isn't written as clearly as it could be. Just google it or watch a video, then answer the practice questions.
The real benefit of this book is the practice questions. They are the same as/very similar to the questions on the real test. They also reference the official FAA test supplement that you will use when you take the test. It's very helpful to have the experience referencing the supplement and getting familiar. (The test supplement is INCLUDED with this book!) And don't forget that this book comes with 5 free online practice tests!
The FAA test really isn't that hard if you study and don't second guess yourself. Most test questions I got were related to charts, weather, airspace, and ADM and CRM. Know the drone rules (like 400 ft AGL), and be able to find the tower frequency and CTAF on charts (hint: they can be the same number, and they are always to the left the blue circle with the C).
This book does an outstanding job at what it purports to do: give you the answers to the questions that will appear on the actual FAA test that you will be taking. I spent 10-15 hours over the past week answering all of the questions in the book and taking the included five computerized practice exams. I just came home from taking the test, with a score of 90%. I would estimate that approximately 75% of the questions on the real test that I just finished were identical, or almost identical, to the questions in the practice exams. I am pretty sure the author has people taking the exam and memorizing the questions because it almost looks like they stole a copy of the test and reprinted it.
This book does not teach you to fly a drone, or how to read a sectional chart. There are YouTube videos and free materials available for download from the FAA that can teach you the fundamentals of the concepts that will be tested (which essentially boil down to how to not fly where you aren’t supposed to and how to best avoid damaging other people or property with your drone). But this book does not purport to teach you those skills. Instead, the book explains which questions the FAA will ask you and what the correct answers to those questions are.
Basically, this is an inexpensive insurance policy to confirm that you studied the right things in advance of the test and gives you the FAA references to the information you are getting wrong. I strongly recommend that anyone who has bothered to drop the money to take the test buy this book to avoid a re-test.
