Being a machinist for 40 years, when I started in this trade most all your better tools were made in the U.S.A, have alot of starret tooling and this set is as good as my first set 40 years ago, the only difference is the size stamped on them isn't as deep but all and all was happy to see this country can still manufacture quality tools
Great American Made punch set. For most of my gunsmithing needs I have no problems. The only time I run into issues is when removing pins from grips to swap out backstraps. The reason is these punches are tapered and aren't quite long enough to punch some pins out all the way before the tapering becomes wider than the hole. At that point I use pliers to pull the punch out. Not a big deal, but if these punches were slightly less tapered or just a bit longer, they'd be perfect for me. Still a great product and highly recommend.
The precise manufacturing of these high quality punches is no joke, you really do get what you pay for. The storage container is the icing on the cake for me, very easy to see and grab the punch you need and the top fits very snuggly due to the tapered fit. The punches themselves are pretty short and taper after about an inch, the reason for this is for strength and durability when driving out hard or stuck pins, if you want a longer reach punch, Starrett also makes a set that doesn't taper. The knurling is great and provides a very positive grip.
