I absolutely love this book. It is very well written and the illustrations are REAL, colorful and detailed. The book is divided into the body system then it is subdivided with terminology (words, procedure, lab etc.) that will help me with my coding class. It also provided medical records documentation. I am so Happy that I preorder this book!!! It also has test your knowledge sections to make sure I am getting an understanding to what they are teaching me. The Appendix sections are great in itself. If I was the author my next step would be take this book, add an access code an make it a course on line (that includes pronunciations)!!!

DJ

I liked how this book is for beginning medical coders as well as refreshers for more advanced medical coders.

SP

I will say that this dictionary is a great help with prerequisites to benefit you in the long run. I have used it in almost all of my general education courses such as Anatomy and Physiology, Psychology, and others. I HIGHLY SUGGEST this to all forms of medical study including nursing. Hopefully, Merriam-Webster comes out with a pharmacology dictionary!

I have a niece who's studying for the RHDS exam from AHDI, and she's had to study microbiology, immunology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, etc. When typing various medical reports, she sometimes encounters a word she doesn't know. However, she does know what it seems as though the dictator is saying, and with that in mind, it's usually not difficult for her to find the right word in this dictionary, which she then commits to memory.

I glanced through the dictionary, and, unlike some of the other reviewers, neither my niece nor I found the print too small to read. Don't get me wrong. If you need large print to be able to read something, this print is going to be too small. However, if you have normal eyesight, you should be able to read this just fine.

There are many, many entries in this dictionary, which is more than 800 pages long. I recommend it for anyone working in a physician's office or hospital, for coders, for transcriptionists, for pharmacists, for anyone who isn't positive he or she knows every single word in the medical lexicon.

I'm so glad I bought this dictionary for my niece, and so is she. She says she knows she'll use it often.

Especially for someone like me who worked at a Pharmaceutical Co as a Clinical Data Manager, used a book like this and was honest enough NOT to take their property even after I was laid off after 21yrs so my job could go overseas (nope, not bitter! lol). I like to brush up on my Medical Terminology especially as my health isn't that great anymore. Got one for Mom too for same reasons & she can look up something quickly and put her mind at rest until she would like to research further. Print is small but that's what paperbacks are like.

I'm a student in the Medical Coding program at my local college. Some of my class instructors have recommended that we find ourselves a good medical dictionary. After some research, and asking established coders what they prefer in a med. dictionary I settled on this Mosby's Medical Dictionary.

Cursory Observation: The dictionary is bound with a hardcover and the pages are shiny, sleek, and nicely printed. I noted the heaviness of the book as well as the comprehensive definitions and pictorials. It is about 3.5" thick. Elsevier is the publisher of this dictionary as well as the publisher of some of my coding textbooks. I felt comfortable with using this dictionary because of this.

Recommendation: Yes, I can recommend this dictionary to fellow Medical Coding Students. It's a beautiful, quality book for the price. It's comprehensive enough to get you through assignments that require more research into understanding what a condition is for the purpose of coding it.

Going through pre-med? Medical school? Just wanna know every square millimetre of human anatomy and nearly every documented disease in about 2000 pages for this price? Well congratulations, this book has it all, I was skeptical about the price if it would just be a quick hitter on basic anatomy but this book is much like (as the title of the book is) a dictionary with detailed pictures and symptoms of diseases and functions of everything. Though I can admit it doesn't go as IN DEPTH for every disease or symptom, it is an amazing entry-level tool to study.

We use this when we're confused about medical terms. Started using it when our preemie daughter was born and doctors used mitigated speech when speaking about her medical condition. "Your daughter has acute broncho-pulmonary dysplasia, which affects her alveoli and blah blah blah."

Broncho-pulmonary dysplasia meant nothing to me until I we looked it up. Get a dictionary. Get informed. Ask good questions.

I am a Medical Coding and Billing Specialist. I thought I either needed a new glasses RX or larger print in my medical dictionary, that is necessary for me to use everyday. Well I got both.
This large print issue has changed my working life amazingly and I do not even have the new glasses yet. this copy was used like new and I cannot see any use what so ever.
It is in perfect condition. I have now decided to buy my yearly new editions of ICD-9-CM and CPT text through Amazon.com.
