Don't just slap this on and expect the dog to learn on their own! Also - if you put it on a fence, the dog will easily learn quickly. If you put it through the yard, it's confusing to dogs and they might just be stressed and not use the full area.
Also - DON'T USE 24/7. Instructions say to avoid using more than 12 hours a day. If you never take these off, the dog's neck with get sores and then you'll be out of use until they heal. We know from experience! We don't always take them off at night, but we do try to give them more nights without them than with them on. It gives them a break and I'm sure they don't land on the same exact spot when we put them back on each day. Our dogs come into the garage at night, but are outside dogs. I recommend you consider the same plan if you use a shock collar of any kind.
There are a lot of settings. If you don't read about how to use these, you may return them thinking they don't work at all. Learn how to turn them on, how to set the shock intensity, and how to set the boundary space (how far from the wire it alerts/shocks the dog). Depending on your yard size and dog attitude, you'll want to find the right setting for each of those things.
I like the flashing green light when it's charged, and flashing red when I need to charge it. The batteries last a long time. We're very happy with our purchase.
We have two big dogs (90 & 110 lbs) and these work great at less than ½ the intensity. So PLEASE get these but read the instructions and start at the lowest level... Only moving up if needed. Level 4 makes my 110 pound dog jump up in the air and bark. So please don't assume your stubborn dog needs full intensity (4 is not the highest setting!).
All that warning out there - these are great. They are smaller than the older version (we recently upgraded and like these better for size and functions).

We have an 18 month old Doberman that requires a ton of exercise. While working on his training, preventing him from disappearing into the woods has been a bit of a challenge. We take him to the dog park to blow off steam but that's not always an option. We have been looking into physical fencing of all types but for the amount of free space we'd like to provide him it is cost prohibitive. I began researching the invisible fences and ordered this product.

Installation was quite simple. The yard is large and surrounded on 3 sides by woods with entrances to a few paths. We used up the 1000' of provided wiring and I picked up another 500' of the 20 gauge invisible fence wire from the local home improvement store. We looped nearly 1500 feet of wire around the perimeter of the yard. As luck would have it, we had a crack running across the driveway at around the halfway point between the house and the road that we laid the wire in and filled it with driveway repair goop.

For the rest of the yard, I used the edger attachment on my weed whacker to cut trenches where needed and buried the wire. Instead of burying all of it, we used landscaping staples to secure the wire under the bushes and brush around the perimeter. I understand that nature should do the rest. Finally, I used a drill to twist the wires that cross through the containment area and ran it into the garage where the transmitter is installed. We set the transmitter to trigger the collar at about 5' away from the wire. The collar is set to the lowest level (2), which my wife and I tried on our arms to see what it felt like - a very minor, uncomfortable tickle.

With everything tested out, flags planted and collar charged up it was time to train. We walked the leashed dog around the perimeter a couple of times. Along the way, we would stop at random flags and say "no!", walk him past the flags to trigger the warning beep and say "no!" and once walked close enough to the wire to trigger the static.

That's all it took.

I thought we'd be following the training guide for a month but it doesn't matter if he's chasing birds, rabbits, balls, the kids or our other dog - he will not go anywhere near any of the flags. It he's leashed and we get close to the flags he stops and lays down.

This is a game changer for us and our active boy and we couldn't recommend it more.

I felt compelled to write this review because of some of the negative reviews that just don’t seem accurate to me. This product has been flawless since I bought and installed it in March of 2020. The installation, set up, training, battery life of the collar and reliability have been absolutely fantastic. Our girl is so used to the boundaries now that I don’t even worry about sending her outside without the collar for a quick break first thing in the AM or last one before bed, she won’t venture past the boundaries now regardless of a collar on her neck or not. Our neighbor got a new pup this spring and she wanted so bad to say hello at the fence so I took the collar off so she could get up close but nope, not crossing that line Dad! So I don’t understand some of the negative reviews at all, my experience has been great and we just welcomed a new puppy to the family last week so will be ordering another collar for him when he is old enough. As for install, a few tricks I used worth suggesting as I have an acre and a half contained was to just staple the wire along fencing where it already existed and my favorite trick, I used inexpensive 1/2” PEX drip line irrigation tubbing ( about 10 bucks per 100ft at HD) to fish the wire through and just layed it on top of the ground 200-300 foot or more on sides of my property with no fencing along the edge of the woods for example and this protects the wire from getting damaged and does not impact the signal at all. I hardly used a shovel on this project at all. For the average DIY’er this is a about a 3 on the scale of 1-10 in difficulty, all it took was a little of my spare time which has been gained back 100 fold in time not spent watching the dog to make sure she does not go wandering or worse driving around looking for my adventurer….not to mention the peace of mind that she is safe and in the yard.

I installed this by myself, and I'm not technical savvy. It took me a very long time to bury the wire, but that's okay because it works whether you bury it or not. The hardest part was to calibrate the boundary distance.

I have a shiba inu puppy who likes to slip his harness and we live right against a VERY busy road. A physical fence is much too pricey for the size of my yard, so we decided the best option was an invisible fence.

I followed the included training guide to a tee, and Larry learned it very well. I had also purchased extra flags because I wanted to really put up a lot of them to help him learn his boundaries. I have now started to remove every other flag and he's doing great.

One mistake I had made that I learned quickly to fix is that the collar was too loose. You must put the collar on tight enough. The book says how tight but I had given some wiggle room because he's a puppy. That mistake instantly became known when a man walked his dog past and little Larry waltzed right out of the yard to go meet the new friends. Zero reaction was given to the shocks. Since I tightened the collar that hasn't happened again.

The collar looks uncomfortable, but Larry is very good at telling us if he doesn't like something, and he doesn't mind it. It's quite bulky for a 15lb pup like him, but he got used to it very quickly and it doesn't seem to bother him at all. I have tested the collar on myself at level 5 and it definitely grabs your attention but does not hurt. Larry only needs level 3 to stay in the boundary.

This fence is a lifesaver. People fly down my road very fast and Larry slips his harness sometimes, so this fence keeps him safe in his yard and off the road, even when he sees a squirrel or cat! He still isn't afraid to go on daily walks, which is very important. I was worried it might negatively impact his walks because of fear of crossing the line, but he knows that if he hears no beep there is no correction, so he never thinks twice about crossing the line for walks.

Our one year old German Shepherd/Husky rescue is a master at escaping our fenced in yard. After his 7th escape in 2 weeks (including one when he was on a leash and inside the fenced yard with an adult), we ordered this system to install inside our fence line. We were hesitant to use static correction, but know that it is more humane than letting him escape and possibly run into traffic. Well, today is Day 2 of training (the first day you introduce static correction) and after 2-3 zaps on Level 2 (lowest static setting), he is sitting calmly and firmly inside the boundary area. He has no interest in walking past those flags again. My husband insisted on feeling the correction himself first before putting the collar on the dog and said that it wasn't as bad as he expected it to be, but would definitely get his attention. And distraction training? There are bunnies outside the fence that he desperately wants to chase, but even that isn't getting him to budge. We are so thankful because after many other attempts to contain our dog, this was our only remaining option...

We ended up having to return this, through no fault of the seller, we just needed to cover more acreage. The seller was great to work with though. The reason I'm submitting a review is to give this HELPFUL TIP: In order to create a passable boarder from the perimeter to the transmitter, you need to wrap the wires around each other 10-12 times per foot, which for us was about 50 feet. What we did was put the two wires in a drill (where the bit goes) and turned it on. It took less than a minute. They should put this suggestion in the manual.

It has not been installed very long. The range of correction strength adjustment is very useful, in fact, absolutely necessary. With the old fence controller (another highly advertised brand), I could test it by putting my fingers on the prongs and walking to the fence line. This one comes with a no-touch indicator tool, but that's for smarter people than I. I originally set the strength to 5, which nearly tore my arm off in the reactive jerk. I believe a 5 setting would stop an elephant. 3 is more than ample, even for a big dumb dog (or a dumb installer who uses his fingers as a test device.)
Cannot testify as to longevity, as it hasn't bee in that long. Will know about that in a year or so.

This is the rare product that is well designed, well built, and well documented. The installation instructions were excellent (in contrast to almost everything you buy these days). And, honestly, they need to be, because this is an electronic system that will only work right if it's installed right. If you take your time and read and follow the instructions carefully, you will end up with a system that works great.

I needed to create a border around roughly 3 acres. In addition to this controller, I bought 500- and 1000-foot 16 gauge PetSafe wires (the 1000-ft. roll is not available from Amazon), and a second PetSafe receiver collar. My plan was to just lay the wire down on the ground, because digging a 1500-foot trench is a lot of work! Well, the first night two spots were chewed on through the insulation, and the wire had been moved in another spot. So we dug a very shallow trench and buried it. The whole project took a weekend.

I was a little worried that twisting the wires together as a means of neutralizing the signal wouldn't work, but it worked perfectly; the collar will not go off even an inch away from the twisted pair. This gives you a good way to get from the controller (mounted in a dry location with power) to the property line. They suggest a trick where you use a drill to twist the two wires together, and that worked well too.

The only way that I deviated from the instructions was in soldering and heat-shrink-insulating connections between wires. They do provide a solderless way to do it, but I'm more confident in my approach.

Does it work? Yes! My two dogs wandered away at least daily before, and not once since. Their collars are only set to Level 2 (the mildest shock).

I am not affiliated in any way with PetSafe, except that now I'm a fan.

I am so happy with PetSafe. This is the second one we’ve purchased and I highly recommend the collar that you use a 9 V battery because the older one we had won’t keep its charge anymore. We opted for the “stubborn dog” model because my 10 month old Weim/Lab mix would NOT stop jumping on the door and opening it!! It was so annoying and we tried every kind approach for months until we decided he needed a good zap to stop him. He completely respected the boundary immediately. There is a warning beep if he gets too close and then a zap if he lingers too long or comes close- this can be controlled on the collar and control center how much strength or distance to the wire you want the dog to be. We also got chickens and ran a wire around the coop and yard- again, keeps the dog away and he doesn’t even think twice about it now. Got a stubborn dog? Get a system if you want a little sanity with controlling your pup!

It took us a while to get to actually putting up this PetSafe Basic In-Ground Fence. It can seem like a very daunting task. One thing I suggest is that you really map out where you want to have your fence set up before you even get it out. We made the mistake of mounting the plug where we thought we were going to run it from, and then completely changing our minds and it was a bit of a hassle. It can get quite confusing if you are wanting to block off multiple areas, like we blocked off our garden area as well as did around the perimeter, so it is definitely best to plan it out beforehand. Once it was up and running we got the collar fitted and used the larger prongs for our german shepherd pit mix. There are different strength settings on them and we had it in the middle and he jumped our fence no issues. Since then we have turned it all the way up for him. He went to jump the fence and made a yipped and back stepped. Then he went for the fence once more, and hasn't done it since. It took him and our other pup a while to map out where they are allowed and where they are not allowed to ho in the yard, but once they got it they are doing well. I have to say the first week the poor pups were scared to go out and we had to force them out. I think I was worried that we ruined the outside for them, but once they learned their boundaries they have been much better. That was a few weeks ago and this week they have been outside WITHOUT the collars with ZERO issues. I can even leave our gate open and they know they are not allowed to cross that wire barrier. I am so glad this has helped us! And I hope it continues so that we can eventually remove the wires as well and trust they will stay in the yard.

~Thanx~

Great product, would recommend to anyone. Took about 3 hours total for me because my backyard has some trees I had to go around but mainly just zip tied it to my existing chain-link fence, staple gun for the wooden fence/side of the house, and burried around the AC unit so they wouldn’t tear anything up around there. My 2 lab mix puppies had learned to climb the chain-link and were getting into my neighbor’s yard and to the front yard (luckily always stayed close by) so I was fearing they would get hit by a car and didn’t want them in my neighbors’ yards. We tried them inside but due to them being puppies they just wanted to tear up stuff (which they did) so I put them on leads but then they couldn’t run around as much and kept getting tangled in the trees. I was about to spend about the same amount of money on 2 large kennels so I figured I’d try this out and I’m glad I did. Saved a bunch of money over the competitors and even got the extra collar all for about $200 and the install was very easy, just time consuming. I do recommend using a drill to twist the wires, so much easier. Didn’t need to really train them like the manual said, just took a couple shocks and they learned the boundaries. They hated it the first couple days cause they didn’t understand why they were being shocked but after a couple days they started going back to their normal selves, running around and playing together and now know their limits. I don’t agree with the level system for our dogs. I consider them “very hyper” but 4 and 5 was way too high for them but 3 seemed to work just fine. As for the boundary limit, I just had to kind of mess around with it and 6 seems to be a good boundary for our needs. All in all, extremely happy so far (couple weeks in).

The directions are well written and easy to follow. They offer several options for installation, in ground, above ground, with a fence, around gardens and trees, etc. They are thorough and easy to follow. After installing the unit, I tested it per the instructions and everything was working. There are 5 levels of electric stimulus. The collars are fully adjustable for the shock level, the controller adjusts the distance the collar starts to activate. I bet the reviewers that said their dogs didn't respond probably didn't understand the wall controller does not control the level of shock. The collar has a separate adjustment for the level of shock; 1-5. The wall controller adjusts the width of the zone, 2' wide to 10' wide. If your collar is one level 1 (low) and the width is at 10 (maximum), your dog will not get a shock, only a low level beep. You must adjust the collar to 5 (high) to train the dog the first time. One or two zaps and the dog will learn to associate the warning beep with a zap. Then you adjust the shock level down to 2 or 3 for most dogs; higher for stubborn dogs with thick fur. There are longer (included) contact points for dogs with thick fur (shepherds, collies, etc). the short contacts will not work on dogs with thick fur. If in doubt, try both sets and see if the longer contacts work better. Dogs need a visual barrier, they won't remember the wire is buried, once they associate the visual barrier with the electric fence, your problems are solved.

Why is this a 10 star review? One of my dogs was bored and saw the controller and thought it would be a good chew toy. I came home and found it mangled and in 15 pieces strewn across the carpet. When I called to buy a replacement controller, Pet Safe offered to replace it for free! I wasn't expecting that, but I certainly wasn't going to refuse their kind gesture.
Thank you Pet Safe.
I would have written the same review (5 star) even without the replacement, but they really do stand behind their product even when it obviously wasn't a factory defect and deserve 10 stars.

Collar saved my dog. A black bear came blasting into our yard while we were standing in the driveway, so I tried to call my dog into the house. As we ran to the door, the bear passed us and my dog ended up chasing it.
I couldn't call her back, she only wanted the bear. This collar is the only thing that stopped her at the perimeter from getting tangled with the 500 lb Maine black bear. I later got a picture of this bear on my game camera. Battery lasts a long time and you just need to turn the collar on beside the base so it connects. Read the directions, they make sense and test it before use. This changed everything that I didn't like about my dog and now we are both happy and playing in the yard that is her own. In the beginning she wouldn't come in the house when called so I lowered the perimeter and she came right inside once it beeped. Great training device and the neighbor is not showing up with my dog in his car anymore. After the bear thing, I had to write a review. Recently I took her to my parents beach and I was able to plug the base in down there and she could swim and play around it and it kept her from going up on the busy street by the house. I also took the dog and collar to a friends house who had the same thing. You have to reset the collar next to the base but then it's good to go and the dogs can play together on the same signal.

We have a very big & stubborn Giant Schnauzer.. seriously she’s like the size of a horse and has the equivalent energy level to the Tasmanian devil. After having multiple encounters with our neighbors from her roaming through their garden and “playing” with their chickens, I had to spend the money on this collar. It was truly our last option!! Wish I would have done it sooner! I started training her the first few days as outlined in the instructions for only about 30 minutes a day. When she wasn’t training, we had her on a leash so she couldn’t run outside the set perimeter. I started out with just the beeping tone (level 1 with no shock/static) and it didn’t seem to phase her. After working with her I turned the shock/static level to 2 and then 3. I found that level 4 (medium shock/static) was perfect for her as it did the job since she’s so stubborn and so large. I never had to go any higher. She went past the perimeter a few times and instantly went running back to the house. I’ll be honest she did not like it and it broke my heart, but now she won’t go close anymore and is even acting better! She’s listening and respecting our commands. Treats and positive enforcement are a must while training. No more tension with neighbors and no more stress!!

We purchased this in addition to the wireless pet fence and I wish we knew about it years ago!! This totally changed our lives and our dogs lives! This is worth EVERY penny! We purchased the stubborn dog collar for our Golden Retriever. She would take off EVERY chance she could and was starting to push me out of the way to take off when I opened the door. We also have a Mini Australian Shepherd that uses the collar that came with the pet fence. Our golden was shocked one time and that is all it took. I don't think our Mini Aussie was ever even shocked, we walked her to the flags ONE time and she heard the warning beeps. Both dogs have since gone out without the collar's and do not leave the bounderies. IN ADDITION the collars are rechargable and waterproof.

The installation was super easy.
The thickness of the actual wire could be a bit thicker since it's super easy to snap. The warning beep is pretty loud and keeps my husky in check after the first shock. Did have to trim my dogs neck all the way around cause the long prongs where still hard to get to him. But after the trim it worked like a charm. Totally worth it to keep my escape artist in the back yard.

We’re excited to try it!! Our little midget thinks she’s superwoman and that she doesn’t have to play by the rules like the other dogs. Our dogs are pissers, so after buying new furniture for the backyard and new cement stain I decided to build them a gated play land and it’s amazing. They even have an outdoor cooler and a mini pond to swim in. But nooooooo, she won’t have it. Nobody puts baby in the corner... at least until today! lol

Works great! Really is nice not to have to put up a chain link fence, that wouldn't keep our jumper in anyway!

This fence works well and the dog learned within days how to use it with very little training. We use it at the highest diameter and it works well. FYI, as it says in the instructions, the boundary can change slightly based on where the car is parked. If the car is parked between the boundary and the transmitter, the boundary is closer to the transmitter which can result in an inconsistent boundary. However, the dog still knows to return towards the house when he hears the warning noise and we have learned to park the car in the same place so the boundary is not altered as much. Also I would recommend to take the collar off the dog at night, also as it says in the instructions, because if there is a power outage the dog will be unfairly shocked since the collar will lose the signal of the transmitter. We also taped over the switch on the transmitter so no one accidentally shocks the dog by turning it off.

I got my dog at the shelter and it knew no boundaries. She could jump over a 5 ft fence and I didn't know how to keep her in until I got this. She got shocked a couple of times, which didn't make her happy but it really worked. I have had her about a month now and she doesn't even think of leaving the yard unless I take off the collar and take her for a walk. I have a one acre yard and this covers the whole area no problem.

Xrayaries

I have read many of the negative reviews on Amazon. I see many posts that there dog broke containment. During the training process walking the perimeter is very important. We did it daily for almost 3 weeks. My dog is one of the fastest dogs in the world. He could be at 35mph in the blink of an eye. Once the boundry was discovered and he was aware of the consequences with reward for being a good pup it was no longer an issue. We have had the system for about 9 months. I can let my dog out with a rabbit, squirrel and even deer in the yard. He gives Chase and will stop short of the boundry. He runs free all the way around the house. The batteries last about 2 1/2 months but the security I have knowing he will stay in the yard is worth $6 for 2 batteries.

One negative I have had was when we forgot to take the collar off and he jumped in the car for a ride. The collar began to beep. We were able to remove it before he got shocked. Other than that one incident the system works perfectly for my needs.

I have a great pyrenees that loves being outside. Problem is he tends to wander. We attached a gizmo watch to his collar some weeks ago, I can track him and actually call him on it. He will promptly return home once called. We had hoped his being called back would soon break him of the habit of leaving the property. Unfortunately this did not occur. Hence the purchase of this device, I have a 5 acre parcel, I was able to give my dog a circle with an 80 meter radius. I estimate this to be about 4 acres of my property. Since using this collar, my dogs wandering off the property has completely stopped. He gets to stay outside which he enjoys, but no more worrying that he will get hit because of wandering the streets. This device was easy to program, requires charging nightly, but does exactly what I had hoped it would do. Much less expensively than the many devices out there that use GPS. I've attached images showing my dog wandering off before this device was used, and then after. The images depict the result of the effectiveness of this device. Thanks

So far so good! Bought a month ago & has so far worked great for us. Can't say how water proof it is as he's not much of a swimmer, but the rubber stopper to cover the charging port doesn't always stay in.
Set up is a bit different & without having to do it very often I will have to keep the instructions. Works great to set it & leave the color turned on when charging at night, no need to reset the base point again.
Collar has stayed operating when in use for up to 16 hours.
He is able to go inside out house with steel siding & inside the double layered steel pole barn without losing signal.
I would buy it again!

***UPDATE 7/09/18. Although I am still pleased with the product, I have noticed a few things. First, the remote's screen only shows the bottom half of its display clearly. This started a month in. Second, the collar is a bit inconsistent with weather changes. Heavy rain, clouds, and strong wind change the settings up to 5 feet on the collar response. Poor thing gets shocked for no reason sometimes on these days. Third, the dog has figured out how to charge through the line on those weird frequency days. Lastly, I do wish there was a way to strengthen the shock through the transmitter. Sometimes it seems as if it is weak, and that is why the dog goes across the line. I keep the remote at a 5, which is plenty strong to correct his behavior. Wondering what level of Shock he's receiving from the fence...? Remote and collar charged every 3rd night. Has worked without battery fail like this***
I had actually purchased another 2 systems because I didnt know this system was available with a training remote AND a fence. I actually saved $80 bucks by moving to this system. We have had our system in working order for 3 weeks now, so I will update around June.

A little background on my pup.... he's about a year and a half now. Rescue. 60lbs. Lab/Pitt mix. Came to us gentle and sweet with very bad manners. Used the bathroom in the house, jumped ALOT, ate out of our sink, destroyed regular house items, ran off like a bolt of lightening if my kids left the space for it at a doorway, and MY GOD, the barking wouldn't stop! We are very responsible owners, same food/bathroom/play routine, plenty of chewables, etc. After 4 months, he improved some, but I was literally at my wit's end. 4 kids, youngest an infant(never alone with her, but gentle when they make contact). Anyways, we have a bit of land, but I knew nothing about these systems, and began doubting my skills as a responsible pet owner because Rucifee seemed to be in trouble ALL the time.

Back to the product..... (training) I charged the system for 8 hours. It DOES have to be recharged on every 3rd night, but it's not a big deal since I'm also plugging in phones and tablets before bed anyway. I read the training bit in the manual, and before bed that night, there was already improvement in Ruce. By day 3 he was way more obedient, jumping 75% less, and wouldn't cross the threshold of a wide open front door, even with his favorite 8 year old boy playing in his view. The barking took about a week. I started on level 4, gave 2 chances on vibration before shocking. Yes, it makes me feel bad, but the improvement our dog has shown is remarkable. All I have to do is vibrate as a warning now and he heels at my feet... and I didn't even teach him to do that.

On to the fence..... I spent that remote training week watching a ton of videos, reading blogs AND the manual. I cannot stress researching and reading the manual enough. We laid the fence along the property with yard staples, then tested the collar around the whole yard before burying. My only gripe was having to spend 40 bucks on another 500 ft roll of wire for 40ft. Took only one splice to connect it. Easy. Twisting it at connector wasn't hard either. In fact, the only difficult part was burying the fence itself. Even that wasn't hard, it was just taxing. Took a while because we used a flat shovel. He would dig, I would bury, then switch, over and over for about 2 and a half hours. But, it worked. I set the perimiter at 2 ft, which seemed great, except for the back wall of fence. It went off on the collar at about 6 feet, not 2. I lowered it to 1 ft, and the problem seemed fixed. I dropped the flags, and began walking the dog at them, all around the perimeter. It only took 2 20 minute sessions of this before Ruce learned the flags and was off the leash, fetching sticks with the kids, but not bolting after them, strangers, or animals beyond his fence.

I'm sorry for the long review, I just wanted to make sure it was detailed and accurate. Overall, my dog is free, my family is happy, and I'd spend twice as much time burying a fence to have order, obedience, and freedom in our pet and family time. I will recommend this to ANYONE who is in the market.

this has been a great product for us. Easy to use, works like a charm on our pup, only had to go to the shock a couple times and on the low setting. Most of the time the beep and vibrate work wonders. Our dog responded well right away, even before we put up the barrier lines. Our pup is a runner so the remote and distance it works was a huge factor in choosing this product, We have not been disappointed at all. There is a bit of a learning curve in that our pup was getting beeped or vibrated for no reason, even just sitting in the house. I took the collar off of him for a few days and just sat it on my desk, and randomly it would go to beeping and vibrating. After some talk with the neighbors, we realized another dog down the street had the same collar and they were on the same frequency, we re-programmed ours to a new frequency and the random activating stopped. The plus side to this was the neighbor lives quite a distance from us so we know the range is as stated and works well. Poor pup though thru the learning curve was very confused as to what was happening. We used it to train him even in the house not go go out the doors and bark at guests with the remote. The beeping is nice because they get several warnings before anything physical happens, and then it vibrates before it shocks, so only stubborn or persistent pups are going to get a real physical correction.

Loving it and customer service is the best!
I have been using this product for about a month now and I can't believe the turn around in my pup.
I have a 7 mo. old Lab that was constantly jumping my fence along with many other nuance behaviors. Because of HOA regulations, building a bigger fence was not an option. So, after doing a lot of research on invisible fences I decided on this one. It had everything I was looking for at a reasonable price.
The remote training aid is wonderful! I would have never thought of letting go of the leash before. As she would just take off and I'd spend the next 20 minutes chasing after her. Because of the remote now she comes when I call her and best of all I never had to SHOCK her. She responded by simply using the sound and now I don't need it at all.
There were a lot of mixed reviews about this product, but this is what I found.
The gauge of the wire was just the right size. any thicker and it would be hard to work with, being that it is solid copper.
It fell a little short on the length though. I have just over a quarter acre with two gates, which I ran the fence in front of adding about 20 Meters to the total run. Which low and behold, I was about 20 meters shy with the included line.
So, If you have more than 1/4 acre you will need more line.
The battery's last just as long as stated. If you are using the training aid and the fence you should charge the collar every other day. If you're just using the fence then it can last up to a week. (The collar is only intended to be worn a few hours a day anyway.)
One review I read said it had weak wire clasps. This is true, one of mine broke while inserting the wire but it was easy enough to fix.

Would give 10 stars if i could! Best deal and well made! I like that 95% of this is metal and the small plastic parts can be replaced if needs be. Super easy to use. It does weight more than i had hoped for at 15-20lb and is taller than the descriptions. It stands at 28 1/2in high. The gate is 16 1/2 wide, each panel is 25 1/2in wide counting the joints. The spaces between the bars are small at only 2 1/4in gap. remember to read directions before pulling the gate apart as the plastic joints need to be loosened first. You can remove panels, which i like in under 1 minute!. The wall connectors are attached to the gate when you get it, so don't think they forgot them. You can make this into an octagon/circle, square, or a rectangle, L- shape, and probable a triangle! The gates opening is a little small it you are blessed with nice size hips, but it is workable for me and my family that range from 125lb to 230lb. This will work great for my puppy! please check out my photos! This is the best deal you will find online!

JustMyOpinion

My 88 yr old father just moved in with me ... and with Dad came his 50lb dog. Now, I live in an apartment and I have 2 cats and I a granddaughter. This dog has, shall we say, minimal training and she's been known to nip when she feels threatened. So I kinda have my hands full with this dog.

Sadly my father and step mom adopted this dog and she would have been a project for a seasoned dog trainer.... they were definitely in over their heads with her as they are NOT dog trainers. She has always been wary of strangers and nips at their legs/etc if they turn their back on her.... bad enough with a grown adult, but if she does this with my Granddaughter or her friends, we're going to have trouble. She has almost no exposure to kids so that alone is a pretty big challenge. On top of that she's got a chase urge and hasn't been around cats in about 8 years. One of my cats is a real "scaredy cat" who hides if you look at him sideways just to complicate matters. I have a lot of work ahead of me.

When I knew I was going to have to take her on along with my father, I started researching gate options. I need something that will hold her in (thankfully she doesn't test these things though!), while allowing my father to get through with minimal struggle. His mobility is pretty compromised (he uses a Rollator) and he's a fall risk so he has to be able to get through easily. I realized I likely needed more than one gate. And I realized that until the dog was here, I really wasn't sure exactly how it would work out.

When I saw this gate/yard, I knew it was my answer to my problems. I have tons of options with this so as things (hopefully) change I can alter how we set this up. After trying multiple configurations I ended up with 4 panels at one end of the long living room to lock the dog in both when we go out (she will crap if left in a large enough space) as well as a place to put her if we have company to keep them safe while she's learning her manners. We have 3 more panels at the other end of the room to keep her in with us most of the time while allowing the cats a safe space where they can get to their litter and food. (It's ended up also being great for keeping one of my cats from escaping through my sliding door when I'm Bar-B-Quing!) The only thing I haven't used is the actual gate because my father's Rollator won't go through it, but that's ok - it may come in handy in the future. We will be moving to a house soon, so I love that I can take this with us and adapt it to the new space.

Dealing with the issue of this dog has probably caused me more stress than any other part of the move... or at least it's right up there with the more stressful parts, because I'm realistic that if she so much as nips at one of my Granddaughter's friends or even an adult that she could well be impounded and even put down. The burden of this feels bigger than the "burden" of dealing with my ailing father. So I'm really relieved that we have this in place now. It's working great! She's already learning to not chase the braver cat who comes and goes through the gap we left so he could get to the Living Room. She also seems to be ok with staying in the smaller space when we go out. I honestly couldn't have chosen a better option for my needs.

This thing is quite sturdy yet light for such a big set. There are seriously sooo many ways you can configure this thing depending on your needs. And the price, for a gate with 8 panels, is amazing. I was getting quite discouraged when I started researching for a gate because I really didn't know exactly how I would set things up and I didn't want to have to buy 4 different gates (or more) to figure out what would work.

So if you have any kind of situation where you need to separate groups of animals easily and quickly, this is your gate. If you have an awkward shaped space to cordon off, this is your gate. If you are traveling and need to have a movable pen, this is your gate. If you have someone who can't get through the standard gate that most of these things have, this is your gate. I'm going to upload photos in the next day or so to show how we have this set up for our current situation.

Although I'm a reviewer here I purchased this item at full retail price as a PERSONAL purchase and am reviewing this because I want to. I have not been asked to write a review and I have no personal connection with the seller. As usual my opinions and experiences are a real and true reflection of my experience with the product. I hope my review helps you in your purchase decisions!

These Regalo Play Yard's are fantastic! We have a very active and mischievous little puppy who likes to dig. We bought 3 of the 192" Play Yard's and set up sectioned off areas in our back yard--they work and look great. I'm not sure if they're really meant to be used outdoors, but so far so good. The handy gates make it easy to move through them with out having to move the entire fencing around. They are well made, versatile and attractive. They are exactly what we needed to quorum off our dog. Great product!
