We originally purchased because my son had been eloping from home and school. The features of this device are so very helpful in every day life. I love that I can check on him when he is with other caregivers and even talk to him if needed. My boy loves that he can use the call request buttons to send me a notification asking to call him.
As far as the accuracy of the GPS, I've never had any issues. The school building does seem to block it simply because of the heavy materials they used, but it hasn't been a problem. I get notifications as soon as he leaves school and can keep track of his transit as he travels home on the bus. It even shows the transit speeds, which I love!

I bought this tracker to be able to track down my son, in case he should suddenly run away from us, when we are out.
As the owner of a software company that develops software for transportation and data collection on the road, I know that small sized trackers are very difficult to make. On one side you need as a minimum a built in data cellphone module to be able to send frequent updated positions over the internet, and a built in gps receiver to be able to get the childs position from satellites.
On the other side you want the tracker to be extremely small in size and light weight.
We have used this tracker now for a month in 3 different countries with very good results and we have had a very long battery life between charges, at least a week. I am extremely impressed by the Jiobit, the free app and the battery life of the Jiobit.
However, it is important to fully understand how this unnatural long battery life is achieved:
- When the child is within proximity of your phone, the Jiobit switches to a power saving bluetooth technology. Obviously a small child like ours will be within our proximity most of the time. However in the app you can also invite other people into a "Care Team", for example grand parents, siblings etc. For bigger children the care team can even include the childs own cell phone. As long as the child is within proximity (30 meters or so) of a member of the care team, battery consumption is extremely low.
If the child is suddenly missing in a crowded place, you can go to the app and remote activate a siren on the tracker, so you can hear where your child is. There is also an indicator in the app telling you how close you are to the child. This is efficient for indoor places where gps signals won't work and in also crowded places outdoor.
If the child is to far away from you or any other member of the care team, the Jiobit automatically switches to the more power consuming cell phone data/gps system, where you can track the child all over the world, no matter how far away from the child you are. In this mode the Jiobit will work for about 1.5 to 2 days if no other power consuming settings have been made.
However in the data cell phone/gps mode, there are also ways to save energy in the app:
- You can mark Trusted Places on a map, so when the child is in kinder garden for example, it will save battery life until the child leaves the kinder garden area.
- If the child is in the same spot for a longer period of time, Jiobit will inform the app, that it will stop sending updates until the child moves again to save battery.
- You can teach your home wifi to Jiobit, so as long as Jiobit is within reach of your wifi, it will also save battery life.

I have been shopping around for a long time for a device to keep track of my 1/2 feral cat who travels so much she should probably apply for a passport! Most of the devices I have found were cheap enough but they were also cheaply made and the monthly fee was outrageously high. I have finally found a winner solving both of those issues in the TackGPS!
The unit itself is very well constructed and sealed against the weather. It uses a popular Type-C charge cable and comes with a silicone case easily attached to a dog or cat collar. I use this to track my wayward cat and she doesn't seem to mind it's size at all. The battery with normal use is rated for a month, but I would say a charge one a week would be a better idea. The best feature is the monthly tracking plan using the built-in SIM card which at $2.99 per month (2-year plan) is a fraction of the competing plans ranging from $10-$15 a month.
The Android/IOS App has been working great and their development team has been working hard to improve it as ideas come in. Accuracy seems to be in the 50-foot range which isn't bad for a small device as this. The satellite map view was recently added which added a lot to the scope, but a standard view is also available. There are several tracking modes to choose from based on the need. Precise GPS data is also provided for the exact location. I have added some pictures to show the map functions as well as my cat sporting the collar & tracker. The support team has answered every email promptly and has been very responsive to suggestions, using several. Overall, I don't believe you will have any regrets about choosing this tracker!
I am testing this tracker with my Model Radio Controlled Airplane Club and have extremely happy with the results so far. The unit is easy to setup with the program and to use.
We are putting the tracker into a model before takeoff in the event it looses binding to the radio and flys off into the unknown. So far whoever has tested it has been able to retrieve their plane without any problems.
The models we use Tack GPS in cost upwards of $100.00 and most are upwards of $300.00, so the initial cost of the Tack GPS and the minimal yearly subscription fee is more than worth it to all of us.
One note of caution, do not use your finger nail or anything else sharp to turn the Tack on or off as you will damage the waterproof silicone cover as I did. The company in my case was gracious enough to replace the unit for me.
