What Is The Best Ekg Book

If you are reading this review you already know that this is the gold standard of ECG texts for many reasons. I won't rehash what many other talented reviewers have written, so if you want details on the content of the book check out some of the other reviews. You may or may not know that the content of this excellent book is updated with each printing to ensure clinical relevancy.

I am writing this review to address one question that I was unable to find an answer to prior to purchasing: will buying this book get you the most current revision of the most current edition (6th)? The answer appears to be yes. I purchased this book new from Amazon directly and received a copy from the December 2016 printing of the 6th Edition (current edition). As far as I know this is the most recent printing. I'm sure the changes are small but it's nice to know you are getting what you pay for when buying new. Photos attached.

I hope this is helpful. As you can see it appears to go through 2-3 printings per year so we are probably due for a new version soon. Whether it will make a different is anyone's guess, I just wanted to make sure my copy would reflect the major 2015 AHA updates and it appears that this does.

This is literally EKG's for idiots. Dubin breaks it down and spoon feeds the information to you in a way that makes it easy for a first year medical student to understand this information at its fundamental level to then apply it to more complex disease states. Often times when I read a text book I feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information included on a page. This book does not leave me feeling that way at all. It is simple to read and easy to digest and he does a great job of reiterating points as you progress though the book and introducing concepts in such a manner that they are easy to grasp on the first read though.

I got this gem 4 days ago and I’m already at least 1/3 the way through it. I’m a new nurse using this before I take ACLS certification, and I prefer to really understand how and why something is than just memorize a certain framework. I “got” ekgs enough to pass nursing school and the NCLEX but this book is fantastic and so detailed and actually interesting. I feel so much more knowledgeable already, like I could look at a strip and understand where and what is happening- so that’s awesome! I can’t wait to finish and I would recommend this to anyone in the medical field who feels like a dummy about EKGs. I would say it only requires the basic level of knowledge of at least an emt with ekg exposure or one in medical/nursing school with anatomy/physiology courses completed. Although he will break everything down (quickly) in the start, I think you have to have a solid knowledge of the autonomic nervous system and some other concepts to really utilize this book to its full potential- but you could definitely improve your knowledge regardless but will miss some major eggs. each page restates similar/related information in a very logical and emphasized way that is great for recall. BUT NOTE: this fantastic book (the one I received, 6th ed) was printed in 2000. Most if not all of the information I’ve read so far is basic/time-tested material; but 18 years is a small lifetime of evidenced based knowledge. I would think mostly pharmacological treatment algorithms would be changed the most but I haven’t reached that part (if it’s even in the book), but that’s not why I got this book- I will master those after getting this awesome base! You rock, Doctor Dubin!

I'm an emergency medicine physician out of training, and have been using this book for years (since I was an EMT before medical school). It takes you through ECGs from start to finish, making sure you understand the principles behind why tracings look the way they do. It's so much easier to understand than to memorize. I go back to it from time to time to refresh myself, and I use it to teach students and residents. I give it to all my friends who are starting med school, PA school, etc.

I went though this book, and I am pretty confident I am one of the better students in my class at reading EKGs now. If you are a third or fourth year med student and you go through this book, at the absolute worst, you will be able to identify all of the obvious stuff that you'll see on a test. I was getting pimped into oblivion pretty much every day on my cardiology rotation, and after going through the book, I was confidently identifying weird stuff like epsilon waves and trifasicular blocks. On my EM rotations, I've been able to impress attendings with consistently being accurate with my readings. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get better at reading EKGs.

Truly wonderful book. Very well written, informative and even funny at times. Great comprehensive overview of EKG principles that compares and contrasts different things you will see on an EKG and their causes and treatments. Later in the book, it identifies different conditions and their accompanying features on an EKG, like fat embolism or hyperkalemia or HOCM. There are also discussions on pacemakers, cardioversion and defibrillators. The book is an easy read with a well thought out flow that gradually adds on new material. There are case discussions at the end of each chapter that ask you to identify a particular rhythm so you get to practice what you have learned but also questions throughout the chapter that anticipate any possible confusion or challenges that you might have while reading.

This book is written with such clarity one does not need a medical background to understand it. That said, it deals with a complex subject so you should not expect a brisk read. You WILL need to read each sentence carefully and take things one step at a time. Don’t expect to become an amateur cardiologist in one evening. But you will not be confused. This book is user friendly.

Though it is well illustrated, I suggest serious readers and print out a basic map of the heart to keep at hand, especially in reading the opening section on how it work.

Included here is a comprehensive catalogue of symptoms of many different heart problems, with the symptoms of each and how they are depicted on an EKG. If you or someone you love has heart disease, and you want to learn as much about the problem as possible, this is a very good place to start. Recommended.

The author team carefully reviewed any and every detail of this study guide. It stands out from average books in this category with over 300 own illustrations. Indeed, there was a team of authors behind. They created a study text that will teach you very quickly everything about EKG.

The book is well written with sufficient pathophysiological explanations to make the changes on the ECG easier to understand.

Illustrations in color would have made certain diagrams easier to understand, but that would drive up the price of the book. Overall well worth adding to your library.

As an AEMT we have a limited amount of training in ECG interpretation, and I wanted more. This book has advanced my rhythm interpretation skills (and overall knowledge of the heart) quite a bit. It's highly detailed and was exactly what I was looking for. Also, having it on my Kindle allows me to study whenever I have down time. It would be great if it had a few more graphics and pictures, but they aren't necessary. The author also offered a free ACLS book, which is awesome.

I am a current nursing student and this book comes in handy. Understanding EKG's can sometimes be confusing. This book comes in handy if you are learning how to interpret. Very easy read for anybody. I would recommend this book to anybody currently in healthcare or even considering a career in the medical field. It is great that it comes as an ebook because you can read or access the information no matter where you are.

This book was presented in a concise way that was very easy for me to follow and understand. I have a better understanding of EKGs and how to interpret them thanks to this book! Would recommend to any student in the medical field!

Best product is good

I absolutely love this book, I have used it daily in my classroom. The book breaks everything down and makes it easy to understand, even for beginner students. The only thing is, I have been trying to get instructor access for 5 months, no luck yet. Otherwise great purchase.

My 85 yo mother has overcome a recent bout with congestive heart failure. The information provided is more helpful than nearly 2 years of visits with cardiologists, technicians, etc. Combined with a portable EKG monitor, she can more easily determine whether a heart problem exists.

I'm a Telemetry Monitor Technician just learning basic arrhythmias. This quick study guide has helped me tremendously with remembering the basics. Very handy.

Small print and a glossy finish make this a bit difficult to read but it is big help. This with the Kardia moniter I bought helps me know how my heart is behaving. It is no substitue for seeing the cardiologist but it helps me understand what he is taking about on a deeper level.

I am a retired RN. Much of my career was spent in Acute Care, primarily in CCU and Acute Medical Cardiology. I helped teach EKG interpretation at workshops and at the hospital Acute Care course required for graduate nurses and others seeking to work in an Acute Care environment. When my son came up against EKG interpretation during his first year in medical school, I immediately sent him this edition of Rapid Interpretation of EKGs. I admit I did like an earlier edition a bit better because it had more examples but this is still one of the very best “make things clear” from the ground up texts to be found. It uses clear language followed by examples. It is useful for nurses, med students, even doctors who want a quick brush-up (yes, I also introduced my son to Dr Henry Marriott, also a terrific reference, but I recommend you start here). Goes from p-waves to bundle branch blocks, etc. without scaring the pants off. An excellent book to reduce confusion that can result in a rapid paced program.

Perfect for the paramedic student trying to wrap his / her brain around ECGs

This book is a must read for the novice and experienced nurse/clinician in today’s patient care settings. Fabulous well written clinical manual to understand and interpret EKG! Karen has included copious amounts of practice rhythm strips to hone the skills needed to rapidly interpret EKG rhythms in the clinical setting.

I rented this book... I plan on purchasing the 3rd edition for reference. (they are about the same). I read this entire book... I mean studied and with a great instructor A++!! Not sure where the typos are, when you are focus trying to grasp information you look over that kind of stuff. Good luck and read, read, read!

Great textbook. I used it for my EKG course and passed my exam because of what all this book taught me so I call that a win!
